Buhari showers praises on Obasanjo at Ogun state's 40th anniversary celebration

While speaking at the presidential luncheon to celebrate Ogun state's 40th anniversary in Abeokuta yesterday February 2nd, President Buhari showered praises on former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He said Obasanjo tolerated him and his excesses while he served as Minister of Petroleum under his administration in 1976. “I express my thanks to General Obasanjo, who, as head of state, made me minister of petroleum and tolerated me for three-and-the-half-years. He tolerated me because God knows and he knows that I am not used to working as hard as he used to, but he allowed me to last that long and allowed me to work. If you go into records, that government made so much investment and infrastructural development in the petroleum industry. Two refineries were built, Warri and Kaduna. More than 20 depots were built; more than 3,500 pipelines were laid; and we were exporting refined products of 100,000 barrels per day. But what do we have today?”he said

Following President Buhari's Mutual Legal Assistance agreement wi th the United Arab Emirate on the repatriation of stolen funds and extradition of indicted officials, the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, met with the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Mahmud Muhammad Al- Mahmud today in Abuja. Magu called for the strengthening of the existing relationship between Nigeria and United Arab Emirate, UAE, with a view to effectively tackle corruption within the African continent. "The fight against graft requires the collaborative support of all and sundry, most especially the international community for it to be won", he said. According to the EFCC boss, the present administration in the country is poised to recover the nation’s commonwealth looted and laundered in foreign countries by corrupt elements. A Lebanese man identified as Hussien Tahir, has been convicted and sentenced to twenty four months imprisonment for Issuance of N 22 million dud cheque. According to a statement by EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwajare, the convict, who was arraigned on October 15, 2014, had in 2009 approached the complainant with a proposal to jointly fund the execution of a capital project which he claimed was awarded to him by the Nigeria Customs Service. The complainant decided to take part in the project and invested twenty two million Naira, with the expectation of a return of N10m on his investment. But upon successful completion of the project, the complainant said he neither received the agreed profit nor get a refund of his investment. He further stated that upon insistence on getting a refund, the convict gave him five different cheques totalling twenty-two million Naira, which were returned unpaid. In his ruling, Justice Faruk of the Kano State High Court sentenced the accused to 24 months im

Bristow helicopter crashes in Lagos, all occupants reportedly survive

A Bristow helicopter crashed inward the Murtala Mohammed International Airport this morning Feb. 3rd. All 11 passengers on-board survived as they all floated on water with the help of their life jackets This incident comes a few months after a Bristow helicopter crashed in August 2015 at the Oworonshoki end of the Lagos Lagoon. That incident claimed 6 lives.

Chamari Liyanage allegedly bashed her husband Dinendra Athukorala to death with a 1.79kg hammer in the couple's bed, fearing he would reveal they were having sex with a teenager. After killing her husband, she called the police. When police arrived the scene, they found her curled beside the dead body which was lying on the mattress covered in blood, which had splattered over the wall and blinds above him. One of the first officers to get to the scene saw a mallet hammer lying on the bed,  he then asked her what had happened: “I asked if she knew what had happened, a sobbing Liyanage  said she did not know and could not remember and that the hummer belonged to her husband".  The jury at the Supreme Court of Western Australia heard how the defendant was at breaking point and had become fed up of her "controlling" husband. International Marathon: Lagos restricts movement on major highways...announces alternative routes

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday announced restriction of movement in some of the major highways to be used for the February 6, 2016 International Marathon scheduled to start by 7am at National Stadium Surulere and terminate at Eko Atlantic City.  The Lagos International Marathon, which was last held in 1983, is billed to be attended by over 20,000 athletes, including over 20 world class marathoners. Speaking during a press conference at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi disclosed that the Marathon will start from the National Stadium and move to Anthony, and thereafter to Gbagada Road, Third Mainland Bride through Alfred Rewane to Lekki Ikoyi Bridge and terminate at Eko Atlantic City. Elegushi, who explained that the Marathon will commence at  7am , said the restriction of traffic will however start from  6:30am  and end at  1pm , adding that adequate arrangements hav
