Sister Sarah Kuteh, a nurse with 15 years’ experience was sacked for discussing Christianity and offering to pray with patients before their operations. Kuteh, who's a mother-of-three, was dismissed for breaching guidelines, even though her job involved asking people preparing for surgery about their religion. Recalling how she was suspended and escorted from Darent Valley hospital in Dartford, Kent, Kuteh said: ‘It was embarrassing for me – and painful after all I had done in my years as a nurse. I was told I couldn’t even speak to my colleagues. All I had done was to nurse from my heart. How could it be harmful to tell someone about Jesus?’ She admitted she may have spoken to a few patients without their express permission when she first began the job, but was more careful after a warning in April 2016 that there had been complaints. In June, She was ‘shocked’ when they told her that three further complaints had been made, after which she was told to stop assessing patients an

N-Delta leaders to Buhari: The boys have stopped bombing, let us talk now

FORTY-ONE days after the coastal states of Niger Delta under the auspices of Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, led by former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark, met with President Muhammadu Buhari  in Abuja, the people are still unsure of Mr. President’s frame of mind. Though the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, had consistently re-assured that the President was ready to tackle the issues raised by the stakeholders from the oil region but was disturbed if they were capable of reining in the boys still bombing pipelines as of the date of meeting, PANDEF remained uncomfortable many weeks after with the apparent game of wits. A top member of PANDEF told Sunday Vanguard in Asaba at the weekend: “Recently, we heard that the Federal Government was proposing  a  former Chief of Army Staff, General Theophilus Danjuma (retd), to head its Negotiating Team. We also heard that the security chiefs and some ministers were meeting over the matter. We

17-yr-old communal fighter stuns Edo, as Oba Ewuare orders land grabbers out of Benin

Benin-City – The major reason for communal crisis, particularly in the seven local  government areas of Edo South, is land. Youths, under the aegis of Community Development Associations (CDAs), allegedly took over the sale of land in most of the Bini communities and, in the process, scammed those who wanted to buy. Apart from that, youths who believe their communities are more powerful than their neighbours often times encroach on the lands belonging to the neighbours and the result is bloody communal war in Edo State. One of such wars led to the beheading of the 81-yr-old chief priest of Aruogba community, Pa Clifford Omosonwa, who met his death in the hands of some youths in March. The elders of the community were said to have relocated following threats from the youths alleged to be members of CDAs to eliminate them due to their opposition to the way community lands were being sold. The leadership of the CDAs allegedly train youths on how to engage in communal wars after which th
